From Mechanism to Disease: Translational Epilepsy Biology

Epilepsy and seizure disorders affect nearly 3 million people in the United States, including civilians and veterans, highlighting the need for improved therapies. The Reddy Lab focuses on developing novel, mechanism-based treatments for epilepsy and related brain disorders, addressing conditions such as catamenial and pediatric epilepsy, status epilepticus, post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE), and chemical and organophosphate neurotoxicity. Through a multidisciplinary approach that combines pharmacology, electrophysiology, histology, mass spectrometry, and transgenic models, the lab has built leading expertise in neurosteroids as innovative anticonvulsants. Their pioneering work has helped establish neurosteroids as key endogenous modulators of neuronal excitability and promising targets for new therapeutic strategies.
